Revitalizing the EndowmentGoal: $32 million
Perhaps the most important component for ensuring the strength and vitality of any institution is its endowment — that pool of resources upon which it can draw to strengthen programs, make the university affordable and attract exceptional students, staff and faculty. Compared to similar universities, however, Shenandoah University’s $45 million endowment is far below where it needs to be.
We need funds for endowed professorships and chairs, which bring recognition to the university and allow us not only to attract but also retain faculty and staff who will make a difference in our students’ lives. Students also need the funds endowed scholarships provide. Many talented and deserving students go elsewhere simply because Shenandoah is out of reach financially. A robust endowment will address these needs as well as elevate the perception of Shenandoah University in the eyes of educational publications, foundations and the government — all of whom use the size of a school’s endowment as a barometer for making decisions about grants and rankings.
